Highlighting the December 3332 Triple Rainbow
Another climb was announced. It was right on the heels on the previous event and I was pretty dismayed.
I wont say rainbows are my forte, but except for the Single, they aren't my worst formations either.
But this time my predictions had taken a wrong turn. I had assumed a follow up event would end later and was booked on a Conference during the whole scramble. Since the regular entrees had 40 to 100 higher licence than me I didn't even register. No point in having my crew shot up for no gain was my thought.
Of course, when I later looked through the footage, especially of the award ceremony where almost half the Bronzes on my top were unclaimed, it seemed I had been hasty in my decision.
Those who got the Gold medals this time were:
- Div 1 247+ (23 Commanders): Bernard Johnson, Warlock (2h,2s)
- Div 2 -246 (11 Commanders): John T Mainer, Spirit of Bunny (3h,19m)
- Div 3 -181 (22 Commanders): Ken Fuchs, Northwind Dragons (26m,15s)
- Div 4 -133 (23 Commanders): Shandar Shadowmist, Death`s B. (53m,44s)
- Div 5 -108 (30 Commanders): Christain Reichelt, Death`s B. (10m,11s)
- Div 6 -87 (19 Commanders): David Sifford, Steampunk Dragons (8h,12m)
- Div 7 -69 (23 Commanders): Dave Chapin, Ronins (3h,22m)
- Div 8 -53 (23 Commanders): Mortem Orbisque, Emerald Dragons (16h,24m)
- Div 9 -38 (6 Commanders): KiloTone Recoil, T.B. 2nd Kearney H. (16h,40m)
- Div 10 -32 (18 Commanders): Sa Alice, UNDERWORLD (4h,50m)
- Div 11 -20 (11 Commanders): Max Dixon, ButthurtMonketHunters (14h,14m)
- Div 12 -14 (9 Commanders): Restlessmech, Politically Incorrect (1h,4m)
Total Contestants: 208, Total medals claimed: 157 (of 180 possible)
Compared to the Progressive Pileup participation dropped by 60. Whether this was caused by the format, the end time, the closeness to the previous event or the prizes are unknown.
A total of 23 Bronzes from four Mountains were sent for resmelting this time, it is possible the narrowness of the range of pilots allowed to fight on K9 and K11 contributed to this.
There were only two Gold medals who changed hands the last half-hour, while eight were held for more than two hours. This indicates either very strong Commanders on the top, or a really awkward end time for most.
It seem to be a combination, witnessed by the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....2 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 2 ....4 of 4.........6 of 6
Div 3 ....1 of 4.........5 of 10
Div 4 ....2 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 5 ....4 of 4.........5 of 10
Div 6 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 7 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 8 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 9 ....4 of 4.........1 of 1
Div 10 ..2 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 11 ..4 of 4.........6 of 6
Div 12 ..4 of 4.........3 of 4
The only top where more than half the Medals changed hands the last half- hour was K3, and there was 6 tops where not a single medal changed owner.
The best clan this time was Death`s Brethren. as the only clan they secured two Golds (on K4 and K5). There were no unaligned winners, but Dave Chapin of Ronins got his second Gold in a row.
A closer look at Dave Chapin reveals he have been around for a while.
He won his first KOTM medal in the March `97 mountain of Fire, and his first Gold in the July `05 King Chrono (on K9) and this was his ninth KOTM Gold, and also his first Gold in any kind of Rainbow tournament.
In his various clans he have also picked up three Gold Medals as reward for team effort, the latest of them alongside the other Ronins in `27.
With a piloting licence that reads 56, he can use the Eugenia Base (room for 19 Mechs). His current tonnage of 1520 tons gives an average tonnage of 80 tons for his Mechs (Current point Mech the 85 ton Dreadnought) But he have the skill to pilot 100 tonners if need be.
Upcoming event: King of the Mountain (Unlimited)
Here there are no restrictions. Bring whatever Mechs you want in whatever numbers you have (Limited by the size of your base). Recommendation is still to only bring Mechs that is up to speed and you have the skill to master.
Equipment and weapons work as normal.
Event ends March 8 between 2300 and 2330 New York Time
Any fresh winners might try to contact me before the report is written to give them a chance to tell how the event was for them.
