Highlighting the November 3331 Axe Attacks
This was my last special invitation for K2 in this cycle. I had to my dismay discovered the fame factor for getting medals there had shot up, and had reluctantly decided to stay away.
But the event this time made me dither. It was a Mech event, and the featured model was the Axe Bot.
I was reigning champion from the last event, (OK, one of 12 and it had been on K3) and the desire to prove it hadn't been a fluke was strong.
Problem was, there was a conference I had to attend. It started at t - 180 minutes and it would last at least until t + 17 minutes. Joining up early and ending with a Bronze, or even worse, claiming the top, be pushed off and end at Silver were fates to horrible to contemplate. Not the medals, but Bruno would rip my head off.
A Gold... That might be accepted, but I would have to be hands on, check the opponents and make a decision on whether to enter based on their strength.
I got my trio of Axe Bots ready, added a couple Novums as scouts and told my crew to wait for me at the entrance gate to K2. Then I went over to the conference.
Unfortunately, it dragged on, and when it finally were over the event had ended. I don't know if my formation could have handled the winner (John T Mainer). But I would have tried him if I had been at large.
Those who showed up and were to strong to be displaced, or strong enough to claim the top positions during the scramble this time were:
- Div 1 235+ (23 Commanders): Sherriff Leary Wretham, Warlock (15h,5m)
- Div 2 -234 (6 Commanders): John T Mainer, Spirit of Bunny (24m,55s)
- Div 3 -178 (21 Commanders): Chong Chin, Heroes (53m,28s)
- Div 4 -128 (16 Commanders): Sebastien Roussel-Konan, K.o.C. (1h,32m)
- Div 5 -110 (19 Commanders): Leeboy Wegenast, B.S.L.R. (11h,10m)
- Div 6 -90 (23 Commanders): Sheila Hayes Fowler (6h,48)
- Div 7 -70 (22 Commanders): Jack Wade, M&L Blood Angels (4m,48s)
- Div 8 -52 (12 Commanders): Malcome C, M.P.A. "Elite" (30s)
- Div 9 -42 (11 Commanders): warhammer, today and tomorrow (14h,58m)
- Div 10 -32 (9 Commanders): Barnry Miller, ButthurtMonkeyHunters (15h,6m)
- Div 11 -22 (7 Commanders): Curt Bukey, ButthurtMonkeyHunters (13h,18m)
- Div 12 -18 (8 Commanders): Scott Tenge (14h,51m)
Total Contestants: 177, Total Medals: 147 (of 180 possible)
3+3(2S)+6+8+3+1+8(1S)+4+10(G,4S)+3(1S)+2(1S)+4(2S)= 1 Gold, 11 Silvers and 43 Bronzes went to Commanders who might, or might not, have had legal Mechs in their formations. Their total tonnages and Point Mechs were certainly overweight.
[As a side note. On two of the Mountains (K2 and K 4) the winners had only 50 tons and a Novum as Point Mech. Odds are pretty good the other 25 tons were another Novum as well. The coming influx of Novums from the Metaverse might even the balance a bit between the haves and have nots]
Compared to the recent Sixty, there was a drop of 71 participants, and 16 fewer medals were claimed. K2 had the lowest participation, but there were Bronzes sent for resmelting from K8, K9, K10 K11 and K12 as well. A total of 33 Bronzes were unclaimed in this event.
The lack of contestants on the lower tops have been a recurring feature lately. The dearth of Commanders showing up for K2 can probably be traced to the heavy increase in fame factor for getting a medal there. At a guess, reducing that fame factor to previous levels will have more Commanders showing up for future events.
Fighting for the medals this time were fierce on Mount Olympus. That was certainly not the case everywhere else. On K 3, K 5 and K 9-12 there was not one successful medal attack during the last half hour, for a full overview see below.
Number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........2 of 10
Div 2 ....3 of 4.........1 of 1
Div 3 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 4 ....4 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 5 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 6 ....4 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 7 ....3 of 4.........6 of 10
Div 8 ....1 of 4.........6 of 7
Div 9 ....4 of 4.........6 of 6
Div 10 ..4 of 4.........4 of 4
Div 11 ..4 of 4.........2 of 2
Div 12 ..4 of 4.........3 of 3
Three Golds changed hands the last half-hour, one of them the last half-minute. Seven Golds were held for more than two hours.
ButthurtMonkeyHunters were the only clan to claim Multiple Golds. They got them both on K 10 and K 11.
There were two unaligned winners this time. I suspect both Sheila Hayes Fowler (K6) and Scott Tenge (K 12) were noticed by clan leaders looking for top Commanders, and can expect invites to clans shortly.
The only repeat winner this time were Leeboy Wegenast. Getting two wins in a row is an accomplishment few make. One notices his recent change of affiliation from The Brotherhood: 1st Kearney Highlanders to Black Star Lycan Rangers.
