Highlighting the November 3335 King of the Mountain
Another event coming up. I tried to look at the bright side. It was neither a SelfSame nor a Single Rainbow. It wasn't even a weapon type event.
What it was was bad enough if you ask me, straight old-fashioned unlimited. To make it even more fun, I was for my sins supposed to duke it out on K2 where the lowest of the regular opposition would have 44 levels on me, and at least one had more than 100.
That meant the oppositions Mechs would have from 1 to 4 sevenths thicker armor than my similar Mechs, and their top Mechs would have 14-33 more weapons than my similar models. If you added in that most of my rides hadn't gotten all their equipment installed yet you got the picture. I was going to get reamed.
But that is the breaks, sometimes you must get into harms way without any realistic hope of success. My crew were gathered, and while Bruno was out for lunch we sneaked in and got the Mechs. A bit later we were at the mountain where the red tape had been cut to manageable levels so we could get quickly inside.
The top was covered by names any aficionado would instantly recognize, and my feeble attempts to gain one of the lower foothills were met by overwhelming force. Recognizing a lost cause when I saw it, I returned to the compound to make some inroads on the never ending paperwork. Plan was to return when the scramble started and see if I could find any of the opposition napping.
Scramble came, and they were deeply entrenched. After trying all within reach a couple times, and never getting deeper than the 4th line, I instead concentrated on getting some notes and footage. When the light flashed those who held the tops and got Gold, Nephilax and invitations to harder climbs were:
- Div 1 253+ (22 Commanders): Dexter Berry, Warlock(29m,43s)
- Div 2 -252 (17 Commanders): John T Mainer, Spirit of Bunny(5h,33m)
- Div 3 -194 (24 Commanders): Mike Wach, B.S.T.H. (23h,37m)
- Div 4 -137 (28 Commanders): George Warren, Northwind Dragons (22h,47m)
- Div 5 -113 (30 Commanders): Willie Walton, T.B. BlackWatch (14m,26s)
- Div 6 -94 (25 Commanders): Eric Simard, HF: Dragoons (6m,27s)
- Div 7 -74 (30 Commanders): Hunk Grogen, M&L Rogue Angels (3m,2s)
- Div 8 -56 (13 Commanders): Naehan Montales, M.P.A. "Elite" (16h,10m)
- Div 9 -40 (8 Commanders): Jeff Jamieson, Behemoth (23m,9s)
- Div 10 -33 (33 Commanders): Kent Louis Macabudbud, M.P.A. "Rangers" (1d,35m)
- Div 11 -22 (35 Commanders): Douglas Rainey, Punishers Guild (16h,24m)
- Div 12 -17 (34 Commanders): Preller El Ouafi, Skull Squadron (16h,27m)
Total Contestants: 299, Total medals claimed: 171 (of 180
possible)
We had one more Commander showing up for this event than for the Buccaneer event. On the other hand the spread was somewhat worse, and a total of nine Bronzes from K8 and K9 was sent for resmelting. Don't rightly know if the entrances were a bit to narrow or if the shortness of the sign up was the main reason there.
It was some action this time, not full blown anarchy on all tops, but five Golds changed hands at least once the last half-hour. On the other hand, the other seven Golds were all held for more than two hours, one of them for more than a day. There was some struggling for the lesser prizes, as shown by the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........5 of 10
Div 2 ....3 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 3 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 4 ....2 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 5 ....2 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 6 ....3 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 7 ....2 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 8 ....4 of 4.........8 of 8
Div 9 ....3 of 4.........3 of 3
Div 10 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 11 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 12 ..1 of 4.......10 of 10
Mount Olympus was the only top where more than half of the medals got new holders, but there was some fighting on the majority of the tops. "Only" four of them had no successful medal attacks.
The fighting prowess of the clans was pretty evenly distributed this time, and no single clan claimed more than one Gold. There was no unaligned winners this time, neither did any of last rounds winners repeat their success.
Upcoming event: Dirty 30
Here we once again have a max tonnage limit. That is max tonnage on each individual Mech, not to be confused with total tonnage allowed where you might use any Mech as long as the total weight is at or below the threshold.
Here the heaviest Mech you are allowed to use are 30 ton. That puts the iMech as the standard choice, and other Mechs have to be at or below 30 tons as well. My recommendations is to use; Novum, Trooper, Commissar, Nerio and Axe Bot here. You can of course put in some Shocklites as well, perhaps an Hoplite or two. Heck if you don't have anything else, use Anzu, Red Ant and WarHorse. The important part here is to stay below 35 tons.
Equipment and weapons work as normal.
Event ends June 3 between 1700 and 1730 New York Time.
Any fresh winners can try to get in touch to tell their story, the first to grab hold of me before the report is finished might get a few Niodes for sharing their thoughts.
