Highlighting the October 3335 Selfsame
Another event came up. This time it was one where I was definitively sucking hind tit.
Selfsame is for those who have lots of Mechs of one type, preferably one of the top models. Many have more than a dozen, and I wouldn't be surprised if some turn out to have several.
I had no more than four of any top model, and none of them fully developed.
What I had on the other hand was plenty of paperwork to do, and a real dislike for the fame factor any medal on K2 would entail.
So instead of being blown to pieces by Commanders having 40 to 100 grades on me, I spent the entire climb doing paperwork instead. A friend who was there got me some notes and footage, and after looking through it I found the winners this time had been:
- Div 1 249+ (24 Commanders): Fabio Favaro, Warlock (Boreas)(2m,14s)
- Div 2 -248 (13 Commanders): Todd Rainey, Spirit of Bunny (Boreas)(1d,4h)
- Div 3 -181 (24 Commanders): Robert C Goetz Sr, Death`s Collector`s (Boreas)(5h,53m)
- Div 4 -131 (25 Commanders): Scott Abbot, Northwind Dragons (Boreas)(3h,19m
- Div 5 -111 (31 Commanders): David Sifford, Steampunk Dragons (Boreas)(3s)
- Div 6 -91 (38 Commanders): Yan Laflamme, Steampunk Dragons (Boreas)(42m,23s)
- Div 7 -68 (22 Commanders): ohwait, JP`s Rowdy Bunch (Ignis)(14h,50m)
- Div 8 -56 (21 Commanders): Mike Slowenski, Emerald Dragons (Ignis)(9m,41s)
- Div 9 -39 (16 Commanders): Sa Alice, UNDERWORLD (Krampus)(6h,49m)
- Div 10 -28 (32 Commanders): John Xu, Force (Oggun)(1d,2h)
- Div 11 -23 (33 Commanders): Seven_of_9, Borg (Nephilax)(3h,56m)
- Div 12 -14 (35 Commanders): BatGirl_, Troubled Minds (Nephilax)(9h,48m)
Total Contestants: 314, Total medals claimed: 178 (of 180 possible)
Compared to the Trooper event we had an increase of 27 additional Commanders. It was still to few on K2 to claim all the medals. The gap was wide, so the likely reason is a lack of willingness to accept so much fame.
The absolutely most winning Mech this time was the Boreas. It claimed six Gold medals.
Now, whether the Boreas is the best Mech in the Galaxy is a question. I don't think so, although I consider it to be one of the top five. But why does it have such a popularity and so many successes?
The reasons are manifold.
- It was the first Mech to get top weapon acquisition (1 weapon/3 Levels).
- It is fully developed already at Level 128, while other of the BFMs need 20-100+ Levels more before they are fully combat ready.
- It doesn't hurt that it have the best inbuilt Precision of any Mech class, and as 95 tonner can use Equipment mostly superior to the 100 tonners.
- And the fact it can easily get a freeze of 100+% so opponents are mostly unable to fire back is icing on the cake.
Two other Mechs claimed two Golds each, the Ignis and the Nephilax. The last two Golds went to Crystal Mechs; Krampus and Oggun.
It seemed to be mostly static on the tops. Those who had plenty of similar Mechs took the tops and stayed there. Only 3 Golds changed hands the last half-hour, one of them the last few seconds. On the other end of the scale, eight Golds was held for more than two hours, two of them for more than a day.
Further down on the tops, the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event was:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........4 of 10
Div 2 ....3 of 4.........7 of 8
Div 3 ....4 of 4.........6 of 10
Div 4 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 5 ....0 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 6 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 7 ....3 of 4.........6 of 10
Div 8 ....3 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 9 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 10 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 11 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 12 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Only on Mount Olympus did a majority of the medals change hands. A grand total of 28 medals got new owners, 10 of them on Mount Olympus. On half of the tops there was not even one successful medal attack.
The only clan to claim double Gold this time was Steampunk Dragons on K5 and K6. No unaligned Commander managed to get a top position, but Fabio Favaro managed to follow up his Trooper Gold.
Fabio Favaro is perhaps the most winning Commander, and one of the most adaptable. I think he is the only Commander ever to get seven Gold medals in a row.
His career started back in `72 where he took a Bronze in the March Point Mech Panic. It wasn't until the September `92 Ant Stomp event he was on top of the prize list, but that was the breaking of a dam. Since then 154 additional Golds have found the way to his trophy wall.
Perhaps the most impressive of them was the Mighty Mountain win, where all Commanders fought in one big heap, and he came out on top.
At Level 347 he is among the top ranked pilots. The HUUNI base who have room for 42 Mechs in 7 lines of 6 Mechs each is where he plots his coming successes.
He can of course pilot the mighty 105 tonners, and his energy budget lets him smash opponents on Yomi three dozen times without a break. All his Mechs have an additional 14% armor, and he have improved his weapon skills to Levels that vary from scary (Cannon +24%) to terrifying (Fire +80%) Did I mention he have gotten the reward for most damage dealt by a single shot as well? He can dish out 40 000+ if he gets it right.
All in all, an opponent to be extremely vary of
Upcoming event: Buccaneer
Here we have another split event. While none are allowed to use Mechs heavier then 40 tons, there is an additional restriction on those fighting on the nine highest tops. Only two non-Buccaneers is allowed.
This will make for another event between the haves and the have-nots. For those who have few or none Buccaneers, the choice of the two non-Buccaneer Mechs will be especially crucial. My recommendation is in order; Novum, Nephilax, Zadoc, Trooper and Nifthel, although I am sure some will have other favorites.
But judging by recent events, just showing up in main might be enough to gain you a medal, provided enough of the other contestants do the same.
Equipment and weapons work as normal.
Event ends June 1 between 2100 and 2130 New York Time
Any fresh winners can try to get in touch to tell their story, the first to grab hold of me before the report is finished might get a few Niodes for sharing their thoughts.
