September 3335 - Troopers

Highlighting the September 3335 Troopers
Some events seem to be decided before the first contestant enters.

Those are in general where some have more and/or better Mechs than the opponents.
The Collector event (Single Rainbow) where those who have at least one of each of the top Mechs tend to flatten the opponents used to be my griping point, but lately the SelfSame where those who have lots of one type is untouchable by those who have fewer Mechs have taken over.

Then there are the Mech type events.

Most of these feature Crystal Mechs, and it is not impossible to have enough to make a good showing for those who have sufficient resources and are willing to build a diversified force.

There are also some few Niode Mech events. The Mechs who have had their events is the WarHorse (1) and lately the Axe Bot (9) and the Trooper (3). Few Commanders have these in numbers, and those that do will dominate.
Whether it is a good idea to spend precious Niodes on upgrading these light Mechs, when the same Niodes could be used to upgrade an impressive BFM, is a question each Commander must decide for himself.

For me, I have a quartet of Troopers. They were gathered more as an accident after mission raids than by a conscious choice. But as specialist formations came around, they were a good stiffening of my 30 ton formation, and they had brought me Gold in the previous Trooper events.

So when a new Trooper event was announced, they were brought out of the dusty corner in the hangar they usually are assigned to. A duo of Novums were assigned as scouts, and we made our way to the mountain.
Once at the entrance, I was pleased to notice the red tape had been significantly reduced, and after just a few minutes we were allowed inside.

Plenty of Commanders were present, most of them out massing my formation by a factor of 15 to 20. That is normally a cause for concern, and a signal of getting away before they step on you.
In this case however they were badly out of formation, and were easily pushed aside as we strolled to the top of the mountain.

I had to return to the compound and do some of the never ending paperwork. The crew were told to hold as best they could, and take notes and footage.

But I hadn't counted on the meeting some had slipped into my calendar. It was to start just an hour before the scramble, and would last for quite a while. Drat.
Hopefully my crew could hold on to the top, no way I could get back and direct counterattacks.

In the event it wasn't any reason to worry. None of the other contestants did get into correct formation, so my formation got the Gold by default. The full list of winners this time was:

  • Div 1 263+ (17 Commanders): Fabio Favaro, Warlock (5m,2s)

6(G,1S)+11(G,2S)+14(4S)+12(2S)+7(G)+10(2S)+10(1S)+6+6(1S)+9(G)+9(1S)+0= Four Golds (33%), fourteen Silvers (29%) and eighty-two Bronzes (68%) was awarded to Commanders who had irregular formations this time

Total Contestants: 287, Total medals claimed: 180 (of 180 possible)

Sixty-four fewer contestants showed up for this event than the previous King Chrono. On the plus side the event was evenly enough spread that all Medals were claimed, and there was lots of contestants on the lowest mountains.

Only one Gold changed hands the last half-hour. Nine were held for more than two hours, two of them for more than a day. It was not one of the most spirited events we have had, as witnessed by the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

.............Silvers......Bronzes

Div 1 ....0 of 4.........4 of 10
Div 2 ....2 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 3 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 4 ....3 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 5 ....4 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 6 ....3 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 7 ....1 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 8 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 9 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 10 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 11 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 12 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10

The only top where more than half the medals changed hands were Mount Olympus. Of the total of 25 medals who got new holders, 11 was there.
Six tops had no successful medal attacks, K3 and the five lowest.

The only clan to claim double Gold this time was Punishers Guild (K9 and K10) There was no unaligned winners, and none of last round winners managed to get a second Gold in a row either.

Upcoming event: Selfsame

This event is one of the newer variants. You decide what Mechs you want to use. The kicker is that all Mechs different from the PointMech will be left out of the fighting. So give it some thought, and decide whether a full formation of one type will do better than a handful of another.
Equipment and weapons work as normal.

Event ends May 30 between 2100 and 2130 New York Time

Any fresh winners can try to get in touch to tell their story, the first to grab hold of me before the report is finished might get a few Niodes for sharing their thoughts.
