March 3331 King Chrono

Highlighting the March 3331 King Chrono

My lack of success in the King of the Mountain event had not impressed the craftsmen. In this event I had been demoted to K4.

That had its compensations, grade wise I was among the top five and should have an easy time of it.

On the other hand, it was an unlimited event, and I was among the bottom trio when it came to tonnage.

To top it off, it was a chrono. That meant I should preferably be present all the time to counter moves by the opponents. Unfortunately my boss had other plans for most of my time.

I was allowed a few brief returns to the mountain. The boss unlocked me from my desk, and told me cheerfully that unless I was back in the allotted time, it was the bunker for me.

This put a cramp in my style, as there were just time for fast hit-and-run tactics, not precise analysis and tweaking. I managed to get onto the slopes a few times, but the opposition seemed bent on pushing me toward the plains, and every time I returned it seemed the uphill struggle was harder.

In the end my score sufficed to give me a third tier medal, while those who excelled, or just were untouchable by us lesser Commanders this time were:

  • Div 1 260+ (18 Commanders): Dexter Berry, Warlock (+4730)
  • Div 2 -259 (19 Commanders): German Jaramillo, Leviathan (+19100)
  • Div 3 -143 (12 Commanders): Jelloshots Succeddown T.B. Blackwatch (+6300)
  • Div 4 -111 (36 Commanders): Michael Beagle, Death`s Brethren (+4010)
  • Div 5 -98 (27 Commanders): Brian Vaughan, Steampunk Dragons (+7610)
  • Div 6 -93 (37 Commanders): Grego, PHOENIX (+1220)
  • Div 7 -73 (36 Commanders): Edmond Dantes, Steampunk Dragons (+23600)
  • Div 8 -55 (32 Commanders): Brian Wilson, Smurf War Patrol (+13980)
  • Div 9 -40 (14 Commanders): Mark Jarem, Mech Point Acadamy "Elite" (+5680)
  • Div 10 -30 (21 Commanders): Wayne Thompson (+2210)
  • Div 11 -18 (7 Commanders): Rick Quinn, ButthurtMonkeyHunters (+8140)
  • Div 12 -16 (11 Commanders): Curt Bukey, ButthurtMonkeyHunters (+3180)

Total Contestants: 270, Total Medals 164 (of 180 possible)

Compared to the recent unlimited tournament, this was an improvement in both turnout (35 additional Commanders) and medals claimed (a dozen more this time). That is not to say we wouldn't welcome additional Commanders in future events, the more the bloodier.

Without timestamps on the battles it is somewhat difficult to see how hard the fighting actually were. My experiences in the climb tend toward the bloody end, while recent competitions have tended more toward peaceful coexistence.

It seemed somewhat bloody to me as it was, or perhaps the small differences in points scored were due to a somewhat shortish Chrono? The gaps between the lesser medals were, as you can see, sometimes really narrow, and shows the importance of signing up early to get as many points as you can.

Margin between medals in this event:
.............Silver to Bronze...Bronze to nothing
  • Div 1 .......340.....................5860
  • Div 2 .....6340.....................1340
  • Div 3 .....6450.....................N/A
  • Div 4 .....8940.......................160
  • Div 5 .....2580.....................2325
  • Div 6 .........40.....................1380
  • Div 7 .....8720.....................2105
  • Div 8 .....9340.....................1570
  • Div 9 .......210.....................N/A
  • Div 10 ...5310.......................440
  • Div 11 ...1850.....................N/A
  • Div 12 ...1300.....................N/A

The highest scorer was Edmond Dantes of Steampunk Dragons. I think his 67500 was a perfect score, top placement in all 54 scorerounds. He also had by far the largest margin to the runner-up, 23600 points.

Steampunk Dragons was one of two teams to get two Golds this event, on K 5 and K7. The other team to get two Golds were ButthurtMonkeyHunters who claimed K11 and K12.

Unaligned Wayne Thompson took home the Gold from K10 this time, and there were no repeat winners

Upcoming event: E Pluribus Unum (Single Rainbow)

Here you can still use whatever Mechs you want, but only one of each. Should you put more than one Mech of a model in the formation, all but one will be disregarded and must exist as a hole in the formation.

Equipment and weapons work as normal

(Event ends January 12 between 1400 and 1430 New York Time)
