Highlighting the August 3333 Mountain of Fire
Another event was coming up. This time it was unlimited mark b (Fire specialist)
I have few Mechs and weapons suited to these specialist formats, so my odds were not good. In addition I was on K2 where the regular crew had 15-75 Levels on me.
There were three other special invitees there as well, but even they had 500+ tons on me, so my odds of getting a medal were about on par with the proverbial snowball.
But I got a formation cobbled together, went to the mountain and made some tries. My successes were as expected non-existent. Out of 45 tries I managed once to force my way into the sixth line of an opponent, and that was one of the other non-medal holders.
Lacking sleep I returned to the compound after telling the crew to wave white flags if any approached, and to take notes and get me some footage.
A later review of the footage showed the winners this time had been:
- Div 1 229+ (31 Commanders): Terry Cole, Warlock (33s)
- Div 2 -218 (18 Commanders): Bing Paculan, T.I.o.M.T. (1h,44m)
- Div 3 -160 (35 Commanders): Donald Anthony Alligood, B.S.L.R. (2m,59s)
- Div 4 -119 (41 Commanders): James Waddington, Northwind Dragons (2h,5m)
- Div 5 -97 (27 Commanders): Scott Abbot, Northwind Dragons (19h,43s)
- Div 6 -79 (43 Commanders): Blackblade, Steampunk Dragons (4h,46m)
- Div 7 -59 (23 Commanders): MissPsycho, Emerald Dragons (2h,1m)
- Div 8 -48 (27 Commanders): Estralla Starfire, JP`s Rowdy Bunch (12h,28m)
- Div 9 -31 (21 Commanders): Paul Kitchen, Punishers Guild (39m,11s)
- Div 10 -22 (21 Commanders): Brick House (2h,42m)
- Div 11 -15 (7 Commanders): Dwayne Joy (1d,1h)
- Div 12 -9 (2 Commanders): Eric Beltran (3h,7m)
Total Contestants: 296, Total medals claimed: 159 (of 180 possible)
Compared to the previous (unlimited) event, there was a small drop in the participation. Ten fewer Commanders showed up. But this time the spread was really uneven, the two lowest tops had very few contenders. As a result 3 Silvers and 18 Bronzes from these two tops were sent for resmelting.
This was another event where the Commanders seemingly were more or less unable to beat opponents. The last half-hour saw only two Golds change hands, one in the last minute. Eight Golds were held for more than two hours, one of them for more than a day.
But it was not just the top positions that were static, the number of lesser medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event was:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........6 of 10
Div 2 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 3 ....3 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 4 ....4 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 5 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 6 ....4 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 7 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 8 ....3 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 9 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 10 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 11 ..4 of 4.........2 of 2
Div 12 ..1 of 1.........N/A
Only on Mount Olympus was more than half the medals in play, and on seven tops there was not one medal that changed hands. The total number of Silvers who got new holders was 5 of 45 (11%), for the Bronzes it was 11 of 102 (11%)
The only clan to get multiple Golds this time was Northwind Dragons. They brought home Gold from both K4 and K5. Paul Kitchen from Punishers Guild took his second Gold in a row, and on the three lowest tops the winners were unaligned; Brick House on K10, Dwayne Joy on K11 and Eric Beltran on K12.
One of the unaligned winners, Brick House, have been around a while.
The first appearance in the climbs was the July `19 Point Mech Panic where a Bronze was the result. The first Gold came in the Porktober `19 20 tons, and this was the 10th Gold, and also the first weapon type win.
At lvl 22 he probably bases out of Diotima and have 10 Mechs in the formation. Current Mech on point is one of the Nephilax he have won, and the total tonnage of 405 indicates he might well have more of them employed as well.
He have an energy Budget of 30, can pilot 60 tonners and have improved mainly his Laser skills, although some training in Projectiles and Missiles is also evident.
So far he have stayed out of Clan tournaments, but a persistent leader who want reinforcements for the clan might sway him to join up.
Upcoming event: Ice Castles
Here is another of the weapon type events. It is still essentially an unlimited event where you can bring whatever Mechs you have in whatever numbers the formation can hold. But again, one of the weapon types (in this case Ice) deals an additional 80% damage. To reflect this it might be prudent to look over the Ice formation to make sure its shields are ready to deal with this environment.
In addition this is a Chrono, so showing up early to get much needed points is vital. In fact it is even more vital than usual. Because this time some of the Medal winners will also receive a brand new Ultraheavy Ice Mech: Charon.
This Mech will be given to all medalwinners on Mount Olympus, The top five on K2-K6, and the winners of K7-K10. Unfortunately, after lining up these 44 Mechs as prizes, there were none left for the junior commanders struggling on K11 and K12
Equipment and the other weapon types work as normal.
(Event ends March 30 between 1800 and 1830 New York Time)
Any fresh winners can try to get in touch to tell their story, the first to grab hold of me before the report is finished might get a few Niodes for sharing their thoughts.
