Highlighting the January 3335 King Chrono
Another event was coming up. Is it just me, or do they come more often now than when I was a brash young pilot?
Unfortunately, the event was announced after I had fallen into my bunk to try and get some of the sleep my body had been denied the last weeks. I finally got up and stumbled through the shower and got lots of accumulated grime off.
A trip to the canteen to get some sustenance got my blood sugar up to a level where I could register what folks were talking about. Some mentioned a fresh unlimited climb, and on K3 the ceiling was level 157.
Ok, unlimited isn't my forte, but I was in the top third -when it came to levels at least. Tonnage wise I was 500-1000 tons behind most of the competition.
Scrolling idly through the posting I smiled when I saw the end time finally was at a time where there were no scheduled conferences. Then my teacup went flying in one direction and me screaming for my crew in another. It was a CHRONO, and half the allotted time was gone already.
My crew were dragged into the Machines and we rushed to the mountain. Unfortunately the registry moved about as fast as a snail caught in syrup, -after said syrup had been flash-frozen. But it was no more than two, or perhaps three, additional score rounds before we were let in.
The accumulated scores for the top contenders was already so high that there was no realistic chance of me getting one of the top prizes. Bronze might be possible, but while I was free for the last hour, there was a full day ahead of me, and few if any breaks to get back and improve my position.
A few bloody fights later I was in the middle of the crowd, and there was no realistic odds of getting higher, My crew were ordered to hold as best they could and get me some notes and footage.
I returned towards the end, but it was too little and too late to get a medal. Those who had the highest scores and got Nephilax, Gold, fame and invitations to harder climbs were:
- Div 1 206+ (30 Commanders): Dexter Berry, Arcana Dragons (+3580)
- Div 2 -205 (11 Commanders): Robert C Goetz Sr, L/C/H/T (+4200)
- Div 3 -157 (36 Commanders): Chris Zimmer, Arcana Dragons (+30070)
- Div 4 -111 (26 Commanders): David Sifford, T.B. BlackWatch (+1220)
- Div 5 -90 (25 Commanders): Eric Simard, M&L B.S.B. (+3240)
- Div 6 -74 (27 Commanders): Fred Smith, Battle Group Blackstar (+17950)
- Div 7 -59 (29 Commanders): Dave Chapin, Ronins (+12640)
- Div 8 -43 (14 Commanders): Jerry Jones, Emerald Dragons (+11380)
- Div 9 -34 (11 Commanders): Bill Harper, T.B. 1st K. Highlanders (+22070)
- Div 10 -25 (11 Commanders): Lito Fallu (+24200)
- Div 11 -18 (9 Commanders): Zaka Restu, Mikazuki (+2980)
- Div 12 -14 (15 Commanders): growol, Academy (+7400)
Total Contestants: 244, Total medals claimed: 161 (of 180 possible)
I wont say it couldn't have been worse than the 35 Alive, but at least we got an influx of 66 fresh Commanders this time. It was still thin on the ground on K2 and the lower tops, and a total of 19 Bronzes were sent for resmelting.
This was a short event as Chronos goes, and some of the Golds seemed undecided until the last hours. Five Golds was decided by less than 5000 points, while only 3 winners had a margin of more than 20 000.
Highest scorer this time was Chris Zimmer on K3. His score of 110 230 was 2730 higher than the second best. He also had the highest margin to the runner up, 30 070 points.
Lowest score needed for a medal this time was 640 on K10. A full disclosure of the difference between the medal tiers in this event is below:
..........Silver to Bronze....Bronze to Silver
Div 1 ......4220.....................600
Div 2 ......9510.....................N/A
Div 3 ........960...................2685
Div 4 ....12810...................5560
Div 5 ......2500...................2090
Div 6 ......7980...................5000
Div 7 ......1070...................1700
Div 8 ......2220.....................N/A
Div 9 ......6960.....................N/A
Div 10 ..45590.....................N/A
Div 11 ..53480.....................N/A
Div 12 ....1080.....................N/A
Some really massive differences between Silver and Bronze on K10 and K11, otherwise the differences weren't too high, and five tops had free Medals up to the last minute.
The only clan who secured multiple Golds this time was the Arcana Dragons. They triumphed both on Mount Olympus and K3. There was no repeat winners this time, but we had an unaligned winner; Lito Fallu on K10
Lito Fallu`s career stretches over more than a quarter century. The first event he brought home a medal from was a Silver in the April `18 King Chrono. His first Gold came in the Porktober `19 King Chrono. In `23 he took a seven year break from medal hunting, but have since then been back in business. This is the 4th Gold. He have yet to sign up with a clan, a wise leader might seek him out and offer a contract before the Faction War starts.
At Level 24 he is probably still in base Diotima using 10 Mechs. His piloting skill allows him to pilot 55 tonners safely, the energy Budget is 40 and he wields some mean Lasers.
Upcoming event: Double Rainbow
Here there is no limit on what Mechs you can bring to the field, but there is a limit on how many of each will be allowed to fight. The number this time is two, and any exceeding Mechs will be represented as an empty space.
Equipment and weapons work normally.
Event ends May 11 between 1500 and 1530 New York Time
Any fresh winners can try to get in touch to tell their story, the first to grab hold of me before the report is finished might get a few Niodes for sharing their thoughts.
