Highlighting the July 3336 Double Rainbow
Another event was coming up, and I studied the particulars with wry resignation.
Double Rainbow isn't my favorite event, but that wasn't what made me decide to skip the dubious pleasure of putting my command up against superior forces.
Here the main problem was the timing of the scramble, about in the middle of battle day one.
Having the scramble during a battle day isn't exactly unheard of, but it have happened only twice before in my recollection.
But there is nothing (except the cries of outrage, and possibly the lack of participants) that prevent an event of say Anzu Chrono to run only during Battle day two.
The problem is, for those who are part of a clan fighting in the war, that unless the event is one where you are in the correct formation, the choice is whether to fight in wrong formation in the event, or being out of formation in the war.
Being in wrong formation in the event greatly reduces the probability of getting top prizes there, and being in wrong formation in the war gives the opponents a shot at free wins, and could cost you and the rest of the clan the battle.
About the only Commanders that will profit from this is those who for various reasons are sitting the war out for various reasons, for instance those who for the moment are clanless.
We were in a fairly balanced struggle against the HF: Highlanders, and I was a low tonnage specialist. The consequences for my clan if I went off on a personal glory raid was to high, so I stuck in the battle lines.
My Teammate Tony Hoogheem, on the other hand had the correct specialty, and I wished him luck in the Climb. He knew my predicament and promised to bring me some notes and footage.
After reviewing the material and congratulating him on his win, I found the full list of winners had been:

Total Contestants: 301, Total medals claimed: 179 (of 180 possible)
Compared to the recent King Chrono we had an increase of almost 50% in the number of attending Commanders (99 more). The spread wasn't to bad either, difference was less than 3:1 between the most spacious and most crowded top. Only one Bronze, from K2, was sent for resmelting.
Only two Golds Changed hands the last half-hour. The other ten were held for more than two hours, one of them for more than a day. Fighting for the lesser prizes was not really Wild either, as witnessed by the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

Mount Olympus was the only top where more than half the medals changed hands. Nine of the total of 30 fresh medal holders was there. Five tops had not even one successful attack.
Two clans managed to bring home two Golds each in this event: Northwind Dragons (K2 +K3) and Death`s Disturbed Asylum (K5 +K6). We had a trio of unaligned winners as well; Alex on K8, Michael M Messina on K 9 and Don Rafael on K10. The sole repeat winner this time was James Waddington of the Northwind Dragons.
Upcoming event: Frontline
This is the traditional Mid-War challenge. As the gaming commission recognizes that wear and tear on Mechs and pilots makes it hard to field full formations only the Mechs in the first (Rightmost) line will engage opponents. Tactically this makes Trample weapons and Shields less than optimal, while Fork, Splash and Wide Fork is more important than ever.
