Highlighting the June 3336 Oggunners
Another event was announced. It was another pure Mech Type event, at least for those on the 8 highest tops. Those who competed there was only allowed to use Ogguns.
On the four lowest tops it was an unlimited event, I wondered briefly why it wasnt at least a restriction of no Mechs of higher tonnage than 50 tons there as well.
But that thought disappeared and my blood pressure shot up as I saw the entry requirements for the highest tops. The two highest tops would consist of those at lvl 140 and up, on Mount Olympus it was from around level 200 to 350+.
That gave a bigger level difference on that top alone than on the ten lowest ones.
Don't get me wrong, having to struggle for prizes isn't too bad an idea. But there is a difference between an uphill battle and trying to use only your two feet to climb out of a gravity well and out in the stellar neighbourhood. As late as the December `35 WarHorse event, the entry requirement for div 4 was 137, and for div 1 you had to be level 253 to attend.
As I stared at the screen a firework went off inside my head, and I dimly noticed myself falling out of the chair. My reflexes was leaden, but more by accident than design my hand depressed the alert button as the floor rushed up to meet me.
I woke up in the hospital. Jorge was peering down at me, anger and worry fighting it out in his face. My voice was a croak as I asked "Whats the verdict, can I play a piano soon?"
He snorted, and reflectively started to cover his ears. My musical talent, -or rather lack of same, is a well known fact in the Star League, and anyway we don't have a piano.
"Perhaps you will, provided your new implant have it hardwired into it"
Wait a moment. New implant???? I really didn't like the sound of this.
"Your original implant, that you got back in the early 70s was never designed to handle anything bigger than a 65 tonner. The warranty expired decades ago, but that don't really matter as the company that made it went bankrupt around the turn of the millennium."
I digested this and automatically tried to use my implant. The good news was there was an implant, the bad news was it was a rookie implant. I glared accusingly at Jorge.
"Yes, there was no way to upgrade it, so we had to put in a new one. You will have to relearn all the skills, and for the moment you cant safely pilot anything heavier than the Vizi"
He retreated, followed by a stream of curses from me.
Anyway, since using Ogguns would flat out guarantee serious Kickback, there was no point in me participating in the climb.
But a clan mate took pity on me and shared some notes and footage. After looking through it I saw the winners this time had been:

6(1S)+10(2S)+8(G,2S)+10(2S)+11(1S)+8(2S)+8(1S)+7(1S)= One Gold, 11 Silvers and 56 bronzes were awarded to Commanders who did not have pure Oggun forces.

We had an increase in participating Commanders of nearly 25% (49) compared to the Orcus event. The spread wasn't too bad, and only K8 had fewer contestants than available medals. Two Bronzes were sent for resmelting.
This event was pretty subdued. Or maybe it was another example of those who have plenty cant be easily budged. Two Golds changed hands the last half-hour, while eight was held for more than two hours, 3 of them for more than a day. Fighting for the lesser prizes was in general pretty anemic as well, just look at the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

Not even one top where more than half the medals got new holders. Out of the total 19 new holders, seven was on Mount Olympus.
No single clan brought home more than one Gold in this event, and none of the Orcus winners managed to get a repeat Gold either. We had one unaligned winner; Ken KC Davidson on K12.
