October 3338 - Shocklite Surge

Highlighting the October 3338 Shocklite Surge

Here was a couple warring thoughts in my head. Don't compete above your weight class and do your best.

In the event I failed to follow both.

It was my third special invitation to K2, and the regulars there had 30-110 levels on me. That meant their Shocklites would have more armor and 4-18 more weapons than mine.
But I was strolling along the tournament grounds, saw some friend on the inside and walked in. The new automatic registry system (great improvement over the old where you had to fill out entry forms in quintuple before you were allowed inside) gave a little beep and informed me I was enrolled as one of the contestants (Sigh).

Ok, I had better do the best out of it then, right?
But I got immersed in the new wave challenge, and whatever you can say about a Shocklite formation, it is not the best choice there.
But the formation was ready, and I was going to switch it out at scramble -5 minutes to see how I fared.

Other things intervened. I suddenly had a situation on hand that had to be dealt with, and when that was done the climb was over.
At least I had some notes and footage, enough to tell you the winners had been:
  • Div 1 267+ (22 Commanders): Sal Vezzosi Jr, Warlock (1m)
  • Div 2 -266 (12 Commanders): Melissa Powell, Spirit of Bunny (2h,20m)
  • Div 3 -185 (14 Commanders): Michael Beagle, Death`s Collector`s (11h,32m)
  • Div 4 -146 (22 Commanders): John Thorson, Northwind Dragons (9h,27m)
  • Div 5 -112 (22 Commanders): Willie Walton, T.B. BlackWatch (4s)
  • Div 6 -86 (15 Commanders): Patrick Kennon, M&L Black Cats 13th A.D. (21h,18m)
  • Div 7 -71 (18 Commanders): Wesley Taylor, Smurf War Patrol (22h,18m)
  • Div 8 -51 (17 Commanders): Elijah Sowers, clown clan (1h,11m)
  • Div 9 -40 (19 Commanders): saskpendragon, Night Hammers (16h,16m)
  • Div 10 -27 (13 Commanders): Chucky_, Retribution of Souls(1d,11h)
  • Div 11 -22 (15 Commanders): Wile_E_Coyote, Jagdstaffel2 (1d,3h)
  • Div 12 -17 (25 Commanders): BatGirl_, Troubled minds (1d,8h)

2+8(1S)+8+3+4+8+8+4+1+10(2S)+10(1S)+1= Four Silvers and sixty-three Bronzes were awarded to Commanders who had one or more overweight Mechs.

Total Contestants: 214, Total medals claimed: 174 (of 180 possible)

We had a drop in the participation. Twenty-eight fewer Commanders showed up compared to the Holmes Chrono. While the divisions were fairly even, this lack of contestants meant six Bronzes from three different tops were sent back for resmelting.

The last half-hour saw two Golds change hands, one of them in the last handful of seconds. Nine Golds were held for more than two hours, three of them for more than a day.

Not a lot of action this time as evidenced by the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:

.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....1 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 2 ....3 of 4.........6 of 7
Div 3 ....4 of 4.........9 of 9
Div 4 ....4 of 4.........7 of 10
Div 5 ....1 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 6 ....4 of 4.........8 of 10
Div 7 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 8 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 9 ....4 of 4.......10 of 10
Div 10 ..4 of 4.........8 of 8
Div 11 ..4 of 4.........9 of 10
Div 12 ..4 of 4.......10 of 10

Mount Olympus and K5 had some serious action, otherwise nothing much happened. On K3 and the six lowest tops there wasn't even a single successful attack.

No single clan managed to get more than one Gold in this event. None of last events winners managed a follow up and no unaligned Commanders got top placement either.

Upcoming event: Axe Attacks
Here is another low tonnage event. No Mechs above 20 tons is allowed, and unless you compete in the lowest division you are only allowed two Non-Axe Bot Mechs. Recommendation for those two is Commissar

Event ends September 1 between 1730 and 1800 New York Time.
